Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Thomas Winston, THE LOST WOLVES OF YELLOWSTONE goes inside one of the most dramatic and controversial wildlife projects ever attempted, the return of the gray wolf to the American West, through footage once thought lost and now seen for the first time.
Mollie Beattie, the first female director of the US Fish and Wildlife Service, carried the first wolf into Yellowstone: Alpha Female Wolf No. 5, born in Canada. As Mollie fought to protect the project from being shutdown, No. 5 battled to survive and build a new pack, one that would carry Mollie’s name and reshape the land around it. After fifty years without wolves in Yellowstone, returning a feared and misunderstood predator was one of the first times humans attempted to restore a species they’d lost, and it set off a fight that continues to this day.
Told through stunning 16mm footage and candid, colorful contributions from the biologists and rangers who were there, this is the true story of Mollie’s Pack, and of what it takes to share the world with the wild. An IMAX Original Documentary.
