Over a period of 3 years, Children of Haiti tells the story of three enigmatic teenage street boys, who reflect on their country and their lives while sharing a common dream of education and social acceptance. This cinematic documentary captures the spirit of daily survival, and transports you to Haiti?s strange contrasts, its rich history and natural beauty but also its ever present social problems, made only worse by the earthquake, through the eyes of some of Haiti?s most compelling and remarkably poetic characters. Director Alexandria Hammond?s special ability is how she immerses the viewer into the Haitian landscape with the street boys as your guide. These are boys you will not soon forget.

In the midst of Haiti?s lush mountains and historical relics, hundreds of thousands of orphaned and abandoned children wander the streets day and night. Known as the Sanguine (?Soulless?) and forgotten by their own people, they have struggled for survival since long before the devastating 2010 earthquake. Following the evolution and transformation of these boys into young men, this documentary provides direct insight into Haiti?s ongoing abandoned youth problem. In the voices of the street boys themselves, the film examines a complicated issue which has not only plagued the country for decades, but grows more severe every day.

Despite the nearly insurmountable obstacles, they show us that a few can
still manage to find hope, and even a little joy, in this harsh reality.
