SOMM is the story of four friends, sommeliers, attempting to conquer an exam with one of the lowest pass rates in the world - the prestigious Master Sommelier Exam. This is a test that covers literally anything having to do with the entire world of wine and that is only the beginning of why it is so difficult. In over fifty years, fewer than two hundred people have ever earned the title of Master and the ones who have risked their personal lives, their wellbeing, and often their sanity to pull it off. Known for it?s secrecy, access to the Court Of Master Sommeliers has always been strictly regulated and cameras have never been allowed anywhere near the exam? until now.

Our subjects dream to climb the highest mountain in their profession, and their passion is contagious. That is the most enjoyable thing about SOMM; you empathize with our characters trying to accomplish something you didn?t even know existed. When the end of the movie finally comes, it is both tragic and inspiring. Then you think back and wonder when it was ever about wine exactly?!

Filming took place over three years in six countries around the world, the bulk of which took place in the United States, Germany, France, and Italy. The crew also filmed helicopter shots over the Rhine River in Germany, dolly shots in Tuscany Italy, and time-lapse photography in Burgundy, France.

Although SOMM is about something most people have never heard of and of passion many have never experienced? its themes are universal and make for a compelling story.

Theatrical release in US and Canada June 21, 2013 by Samuel Goldwyn Films.
